Album Description
Jesse's new CD, THE RUMBA FOUNDATION, continues Jesse Cook's journey across time, space and sound. In the 1800s sailors traveled to Spain carrying a hot new rhythm from Cuba: Rumba. Gypsies took this infectious dance rhythm and created their own hybrid: "Rumba Flamenco." 150 years later, Jesse makes it a round trip by bringing Rumba Flamenco back to its roots, but modernized in what might be his strongest work yet. Jesse melds his trademark rumba flamenco style with the music of Cuba, Haiti and Columbia, among others. With all of the dazzling instru- mental pyrotechnics he employs, Jesse's emphasis is always on the melody and the infectious rhythms that make him an airplay favorite. Amidst all of his dazzling, soulful original compositions, Jesse adds as a special highlight a spectacular arrangement of Paul Simon's classic "Cecelia", an adaptation that is as creative and catchy as anything he's ever recorded.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing music   July 26, 2010
Gulnora Zakirova (San Francisco, CA)
I have never heard Jesse Cook's music before. Jesse's music is amazing and capturing. From the moment I started listening to this CD, I can't stop for a few weeks already. There is a guitar, there is a latin vibe in the music, so it is exactly what I was looking for. I liked some compositions better than others, but overall, I would recommend for anybody who likes instrumental and latin music.

Another great CD to add to our collection. We enjoy listening to Jesse Cook CDs when we travel it makes the time pass quicker. We love the mixture of sounds and beats.

This is my second Jesse Cook album. I love this CD and would highly recommend it to anyone who likes acoustic guitar music. All the tracks are good, but some stand out in particular.

My favorites are "Bogota by Bus", a cheerful bouncy song; "Manolo's Lament", always end up tapping my feet to this one; "La Rumba D'el Jefe", a lovely intricate piece, almost mournful, good for a slow dance; "Bombay Diner", an excellent guitar/world fusion with a distinctive Indian flair, and "Afternoon at Satie's", a playful, introspective melody.

I didn't initially realize that "Cecilia" wasn't a purely instrumental piece. I don't like the lyrics particularly, but the instrumental part is quite catchy. "Improv 1" and "Improv 2" are short pieces, but they make a great transition to and from "La Rumba D'el Jefe", a slow soft song which is sandwiched between two others with more upbeat rhythms.

This disc is a perfect accompaniment to a long trip cross country watching the scenery, or an evening relaxing around the house. I bought this in March and have probably listened to it at least once a week for three months. This is definitely an album I enjoy listening to over and over again.

The entire new CD of Jesse Cook has the best music collection so far from all his other CD's. I'm so happy I bought this.

I own a few of Cook's albums and other that his live stuff, this is my favorite. It it a really cool blend of traditional flamenco, African rythyms and carribian beats. It has more drums and other instruments accompanying his guitarthan in other albums and it's awesome. You'll be drumming on the steering wheel the whole time.
