Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
2008 digitally remastered and expanded edition of the UK female Post-Punk band's sole 1981 album including bonus tracks. The Mo-dettes were formed as part of the Punk explosion, with former members having been part of the London squat community, numbering Joe Strummer and Sid Vicious among their housemates. Indeed, the genesis of the band came about while drummer June Miles-Kingston and guitarist Kate Corris were assisting Malcolm McLaren and Julien Temple on the set of The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle.ú The band also featured Jane Crockford on bass - famous for the 'punk cannibalism' incident when she bit the ear of Shane McGowan at a Clash gig - and Swiss singer Ramona. See them all in action in the booklet with some great photos and a collection of memorabilia that includes posters, badges and more. This release features the group's sole album, but also adds bonus tracks around that release as well as their epic, wonderful debut single, 'White Mice'. Cherry Red.

5 out of 5 stars It Will Be Worth More In A Year or so, You Know It Will   August 31, 2009
Rude Boy 1979 (Today I'm in Ybor City)
I only knew of the Modettes through White Mice but after 30 years and also not having any copies of it, I still love the song and love the band. I tried really hard to get into the Slits in the late 70's living in the Village in NYC as a teen, but after Typical Girls I hated the rest, well I'm happy Amazon let me sample this album because it's much more accessible for my tastes. Still, White Mice stands out as the true keeper for me. You just know that in a year or so it's going to shoot up in price like an early Squeeze CD release did, or TSOL CD, or Damned CD I was looking at all of them and used they were listed for 50 to 150 dollars (they've probably been re released now but they were really really expensive for awhile to get). The times must be changing for a studio to re release the MoDettes but you never know plus you get a decent CD to listen to, go for it!

4 out of 5 stars The story... 20 years later   April 6, 2009

I bought this album as an import when it was first released in the '80s. Rodney on the ROQ was playing the Mo-dettes and they sounded great. I saw them when they played Southern California then (was it Perkin's Palace in Pasadena? I think so) and loved them. So, I have looked for the CD for some time and was glad to finally find it available. I ordered it last year and several months later it showed up. Though the band didn't like the production of The Story So Far, it is all I know of the Mo-dettes and it remains a favorite disc of mine.

It's true that the music takes me back--but it's more than nostalgia. The Story So Far reminds me what music was like when "Indy" was more than just a label and "Alternative" was not a genre--as it simply is not. The ladies aren't coached and haven't been coddled--and best, they don't sound like they're selling anything.

"Dark Park Creeping," "The Kray Twins," "Bedtime Stories"--these are great songs, and though some of the other songs have a more pop feel--and Ramona's voice, not to mention her big eyes, made me swoon--The Mo-dettes are definitely more Slits than Go-Go's. I used to think they could be an all-female Stranglers--don't know about that now. But listen to them beside the Specials, the Selector, or the Jam.

The Story So Far is more than '80's music, and the Mo-dettes were more than just another all-girl band, and if Ramona is out there anywhere... well, I'm listening more critically now, but I'm still swooning.

5 out of 5 stars Worth the wait!   February 8, 2009

The Mo-Dettes "The Story So Far" is one of my favorite albums of all time. For years I've been hoping it would be re-issued, and re-mastered and have bonus tracked added. Well, it's finally happened. I love it as much now as I did then. "Dark Park Creeping" sounds so good. Heck, it all does! Bravo, Cherry Red!

5 out of 5 stars great songs from a unique band   January 29, 2009

Fans of the Slits, Television Personalities and Dolly Mixture should love this album. This reissue features ALMOST everything that the Mo-Dettes ever recorded, including singles and b-sides on Decca.
