Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
Digitally remastered jewel cased reissue of the New Wave act's debut album, originally released in 1979, Before the face paint, pirate outfits and theatrical performances and videos, Adam and his early Ants were Post-Punk art rockers covered in a dark, Gothic glaze. The tracks here capture early Adam in all his twisted glory, approaching Punk from different angles and creating an eclectic album that sounded like no-one else. Abrasive to some, engaging to others, Dirk Wears White Sox is an extremely creative and exciting artifact. After this album, half of these Ants went onto form Bow Wow Wow and Adam then put together a new version of the Ants that would become hugely successful barely a year later. Features seven bonus tracks, 'Whip In My Valise', 'Kick!', 'Physical', 'Cartrouble (Parts 1 & 2-Chris Hughes Mix), 'Friends', 'Cartrouble' (Single Version), & 'Kick' (Single Version). Sony.

5 out of 5 stars love this classic album!   March 5, 2009

I had a copy of a copy on cassette that I was getting worried about still listening too. I found this online and it is so awesome. There are extra tracks and I now have it in my handy iPod!!

5 out of 5 stars Surprisingly under estimated   October 31, 2008

First heard this one as a teenager, and I keep coming back to it. Never ever saw it in the collections of people I know. Also is doesn't really compare to the rest of the Ant's music, which I really don't care much for.

5 out of 5 stars masterpiece of modern art   April 11, 2004

This is the pinnacle of 70's english punk, a sadly overlooked masterpiece of modern art. The originality and intensity of this music outshines almost anything being made today in any genre. This aint 80's Goody Two Shoes Ants, this is edgy, dark, and heavy in places. Much harder to find on CD than LP, if you see it, get it. I've been listening to this consistently since it was released and it never wears out. Classic.

i bought this album when it came out, and even though its not the original track list (how can you omit 'the day i met god?'), its them at there very best.Same as a lot of bands they went down hill after starting out superb.there is nothing like this album.Quality and original still.

5 out of 5 stars Beware of Ant tracks !   May 26, 2002

Well, whether you like it or not, this is the original Antsound... thrashing guitars (rip Matthew Ashman / Bow Wow Wow, Chiefs of Relief, Wide Boy Awake, Max, Agent Provocateur), pre-tribal beats (Dave Barbe / Bow Wow Wow, Republica), plodding basslines (Andy Warren, of Monochrome Set fame) and walloping vocals (Adam Ant) but, mind you, "Dirk (Bogarde) wears White Sox" is good old Antmusic for Sexpeople at his very best, before Madam Stan became the mincing and prancing dwarfish casanova we all loved to hate way back in the dreaded 80's... That was Antmusic then: tartan bondage trousers, glue-it-yourself mohicans, sweat-drenched gigs in packed crappy venues (aaah the F-Club, Brannigans, Leeds, July 1979, were you there?) pure sex, pure energy, a raw blend of super-heavy-punk-funk that finally tore its way up in the charts before totally selling out like Billy Idol. Don't be square, be there, get hold of the best ever and most genuine Ant tracks and join the Family of Noise!
