Very cool but slightly repetitive tunes April 15, 2009 B. Haller The songs are great but I found they tend to get repetitive rather quickly. Also, the tone of the guitar does not change much from song to song.
GREAT MUSIC December 21, 2008 P. L. ROBINSON (GA USA) I lucked up and ran across Lanterna trying to find something new & different was rewarded and fell in LOVE with the sound of the (retro rock??)guitar... it just blew me away! I may be wrong about what genre to call this CD for me this is a cool 90s Cally sound... but d/n be fooled it's got enough kick,it's smooth/relaxing and dare I say it has a soothing soulful track that my 8 yr old hip hop fan loves to chill to ...go figure
I purchased 2 more Lanterna CDs they are good but Desert Ocean stands out it really is a beautiful/mesmerizing CD.
Best music I have heard in 10 years September 27, 2007 Jeff C. Whitehead (Towson, MD) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am always searching and I found Lanterna a year ago. What an amazing sound - it's atmoshperic undulations and real emotion can take your mind places and make everything in your life change. It is true genius. All of their albums are great - elm street is my least favorite. This album is probably the best. I am just waiting for the next one...
A sure winner! January 4, 2007 Judith T. Hogan (Ormond Beach, FL) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
The entire album is just beautiful. Relaxing, inspirational, mind soothing. We first heard it on ECHOES on National Public Radio. You can't go wrong adding this to your music collection.
Absolutely stunning and original! September 9, 2006 Distant Voyageur (Io) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I was recommended this CD by a previously unknown band called Lanterna. After giving it a good listen, I was absolutely floored at the beauty that came out of the headphone speakers. Lanterna's "Desert Ocean" gets my nomination as one of the best CDs of 2006 and perhaps one of the best and most original CDs that I've heard in years! A great thing that boosts it is that fact that it emphasizes on much more acoustic instruments and actually uses real drums and even brush snares as opposed to drum machines. The entire album has a very natural and organic quality throughout. I could describe this as being a combination of U2 at it's most atmospheric and romantic circa "The Unforgettable Fire" with the strange atmospheres of post-OK Computer Radiohead.
The entire CD is among the most consistent post-rock albums that I've heard in this entire decade as of writing this review. The beauty about it is that it has almost no electronic sound effects and instead just beautiful guitar licks and acoustic drums. "Desert Ocean" is almost like a walk down a foggy neighborhood on an overcast evening. "Fog" has among the strangest electric guitar arrangements that I've heard in years with different styles actually being heard in a multilayered fasion.
