Son Volt "Live From Austin, Texas" = A Very Good Alternative Country Concert DVD!!!! October 26, 2009 Gary Covington (Louisiana) The lead man for Son Volt is Jay Farrar. He originally was in a band called "Uncle Tupelo" with Jeff Tweedy of "Wilco". This is a very good concert, with a running time of approximately 68 minutes. Jay Farrar wrote every song in this DVD. The line-up:

Jim Boquist - bass, backing vocals
Mike Heidorn - drums

Overall, this is a good entertaining, solid 4 star concert DVD. So, if you like alternative country, then you should enjoy this one. Thanks!!!
Son Volt rules October 29, 2008 J. Morrison (Clayton, NC) I'm a new fan of Son Volt and I really enjoyed this DVD. Jay Farrar is a very talented songwriter and he surrounds himself with good players. Highly recommended!
Very strong August 4, 2006 Xavier 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a very good performance by Son Volt of their early and mid-career songs (mostly from Trace and Straightaways, which most consider to be their two best records). The songs are good, the sound quality is excellent, and the editing and camera angles are revealing but not obtrusive. Jay Farrar is a taciturn performer, he basically stands and sings, but he's in fine voice, and the musicianship from the whole group shines. If you like SV, or have heard of them and want to see what they're about, you can't do much better than this DVD. Pick up Okemah and the Melody of Riot, which contains two bonus DVDs, for more good Son Volt audio/video.
Perfect Blend May 26, 2006 K. Hartman (Lake Mary, FL) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This DVD is Son Volt at its best. It rocks - hard - on songs like Chickamauga, Route and Picking Up the Signal. But they can slow it down on songs like Too Early, Windfall and Tear-Stained Eye and pull them off with perfection. While this short concert leaves you wanting more (the new DVD has twice as many songs) it highlights the early career of Son Volt.
A must for fans of Son Volt and Alt-Country.
I never seem to get tired of Son Volt. Jay Farrar is a national treasure October 31, 2005 Mark R. Slack (Reston, VA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
The Austin City Limits is a great DVD. But I wanted to alert fans to the recent concert recorded at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. by NPR (10-21-05). It can be downloaded in its entirety on NPR's All Songs Considered website. It's a kick-ass concert from beginning to end. All the old favorites and tracks off the new album are here. Don't miss it!
