| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Sam Harris has always had a powerhouse voice that raises the roof as well as an honesty that touches the soul, so it seems natural that the former Star Search champion should strike a winning note with his 1999 gospel/inspirational album, Revival. The album had its genesis when Harris's performance of "Bridge over Troubled Water" on The Oprah Winfrey Show prompted the host to declare, "Sam could make Jesus walk through the door!" That Paul Simon standard is included with other familiar tunes such as "Peace Train" and Rockapella's "A Change in My Life" (which features the a cappella quintet as Harris's backup band). "Love Letter" delivers a great funky beat, and "The Rescue" is a spare ballad that works beautifully in contrast to the high-energy tunes. Harris himself contributes two songs, the lovely, yearning "Holding On" and the rousing title tune, while David Friedman's "I'll Be Here with You" is Harris's tender farewell to his longtime collaborator Laurie Beechman following her tragic death from cancer. --David Horiuchi
Album Description From the artist, Sam Harris: "Revival" sings of hope and promise and change. In making this CD, I chose songs that I've sung before as well as originals and classics that speak to me in a time when I think we are looking for inspiration. Songs that make me feel good to hear - and to sing. I hope that it does the same for you when you listen. I did new interpretations of classics like "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Peace Train," and wrote the title track, "Revival," reflecting my own journey. There are original songs like "The Circle" and "Don't Let The World Step On Your Soul" that fill out the heart of the record, a song I recorded on my second album called "The Rescue" that we did a new take on, as well as some obscure covers like Nona Hendryx's "Going Down Makes Me Shiver." I hope what we've created is a record of honesty and inspiration. Another factor in choosing the material was making sure they were songs I want to sing live. It was important that the CD to have that sound. I was lucky to get great people of like mind to play and sing with me. In other words, we picked great songs, we went in the studio and had a blast doing them - and suddenly there was this theme of hope clearly running through every one of them, whether they be serious, contemplative or pure abandonment. I guess it's poof positive that that's what I'm looking for in music to sing, to hear, and to present to you. I hope you like it.

not at all impressed August 23, 2007 Frances G. Sonne (Allentown, PA) This CD doesn't even come close to his first CD. I was very disappointed in Sam's versions of songs like "bridge over troubled water". This is a CD I will most likely sell

The man could be a preacher, amen this is a sampling that will have to do till I get my copy. WOW, he can bring me to tears, and take me to heaven. What a range he has, he continues to top each performance, better than the one before. Look out Broadway, HERE COMES SAM HARRIS!!!!
Simply THE BEST!!! July 17, 2002 Linda M. Phillips (St. Louis, MO United States) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
This CD personifies Sam Harris at his best. The wonderful piano accompaniment compliments his powerful voice. I highly recommend this CD set; a MUST for any Sam Harris fan.
One of the most beautiful male vocal recordings November 22, 2000 Gary F. Gebhardt (Evanston, IL USA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
A long-time fan of Sam Harris, owning his first two albums (yes, actual albums), I was happy to see him resurface recently on the pop music scene. What I wasn't ready for was that same beautiful voice has become even more amazing with time - and he also sings songs on this CD which he clearly "feels" and therefore showcase his voice. This is truly one of the most beautiful CDs I own, right up there with my Keith Jarrett Piano CDs and John Klemmer Saxophone CDs. The point is, this is a classic which will always be on my top 10 list of hundreds of CDs.

I have been enjoying this CD for months now and I must say I cannot get enough. I now have everything Sam has out there. He sings some of my favorite songs that are so completely new when he sing them. This is one to share with friends. I love it.
