Sarah McLachlan puts you to sleep, and not in a good way August 17, 2010 Dana M. Khan (CT) What a huge disappointment. this is totally uninspired and boring. It sounds like Sarah McLachlan had nothing but wanted to put out a CD. It's not horrible but it's not what we've come to expect from her and definitely not worth paying for. There is not even one song that stands out here - not a single inspiring tune on the whole CD. You would definitely not recognize any of it if you heard it on the elevator.
7 Years was worth the wait! :) August 9, 2010 StaceyB. BRILLIANT ALBUM! After 2 complete listens I was hooked! This album will not be coming out of my cd player for quite some time. Sarah McLachlan still has *it*... She's the best and sounds better than ever. If you were lucky enough to catch Lilith Fair this summer then you know what Im talking about. AMAZING. GENIUS. GODDESS. Go run to get this album ASAP! And you cant miss her when she comes through your city to perform. <3
Not her best! August 8, 2010 Thomas B. Hegedus (Michigan) I have loved SM since she first appeared in the very early 90's. I am not thrilled with her latest cd. Compared to her earlier work I fine this just ok but still better than most female rock/pop vocalist charting today. If this is your first listen to her work, pick up Fumbling Towards Ecstasy from 1994 or her best of cd. This is not her best writing.

Her voice can't be matched. This is a very compelling collection of songs. Long over due but finally here!

Okay, I have been a big fan of Sarah McLachlan for years. I liked her new CD "Laws if Illusion". I like Sarah's more brooding, intense, songs. She often has great lyrics, and with her recent (separation/divorce?)she certainly had a muse for this new CD. However, for me, some of the songs sound unfinished. It is almost like she painted herself in a corner, tried too hard to reinvent herself, and some of the songs suffer for it. With that said, there are several fantastic songs. Of course, she always has fantastic musicians working with her in the studio (or live for that matter). So, the execution of music is wonderful. Some fans didn't like her last CD,"Afterglow" that much. I however loved "Afterglow"; I often put it on when I go to bed. So, for me, this CD does not stand up to Afterglow. Nor does it hold up to her wonderful live CD "Mirrorball." But, in the end, I am so happy to hear Sarah Maclachlan making music again. Most of the music is lovely. I just hope that she doesn't make us wait another seven years between CDs next time.
