4 out of 5 stars A Timeless Album But...   June 14, 2010
Kurt Harding (Boerne TX)
I am in the amen corner of those who question the need for yet another remaster of the timeless Electric Ladyland. Does it really sound BETTER than the MCA remaster of several years ago? The answer is no. Then you ask, what do you get if you already own the MCA release that justifies forking out another ten dollars? The answer is not much. You get a DVD that you will watch once, maybe twice and you get a meaty booklet that differs only slightly from the one that came in the MCA package. Oh, the MCA release was packaged in a jewel box and this one comes in a six-panel digipak. BFD!
Anyway, I succumbed to the temptation to buy this and the two previous Jimi Hendrix albums in this format because of the price and in the case of the first one, the extras. But you get no extras here. So in a way, I poured a little money down the drain, but all things considered I will keep both this and the MCA package.
As for the music, anyone even looking at this CD/DVD set already knows how great most of it is so there is no need to add to what's been said so many times already. If there are any weak spots in this CD, I would have to choose the jivey Have You Ever Been (To Electric Ladyland) and Little Miss Strange. Other than that, Hendrix and Co. are playing at their peak!
So, if you do not have the MCA remaster already, then I recommend this. If you do, then you alone have to decide whether or not you really need the DVD and a few different pictures.

4 out of 5 stars Could be better...   May 19, 2010
Bruno Novaes Souza (São Paulo, Brazil)
"Electric Ladyland" have been a classic for over 40 years, so i'm not going to review the album, but this Deluxe Edition. I'm giving the same review to all these Hendrix "New" Remasters.

The remastered sound is really an improvement if you only listened to the first pressings of it on CD. But, if you already have the '97 remasters, it's just the same thing.

I'm givin' it 4 stars because of the dvd. It's so short, that i really wonder why not to put a CD of demos or live recordings from the era? It would be so better.

5 out of 5 stars The Best   May 3, 2010

This LP is probably the greatest recording ever made, that is if you are a Hendrix fan. It was way way ahead of it's time both in preformance and engineering quality.

1 out of 5 stars Music = 5* Masterpiece; Amazon pricing = 1* profiteering!   April 30, 2010

Electric Ladyland is a fantastic musical journey, showcasing Jimi Hendrix's genius as a guitarist, singer, poet, and composer.
My 1* review is for Amazon's infuriating pricing of this product. Just over one month ago, this CD was selling for $8.99 on Amazon. Over the past month they have raised the price to $12.49. That's an outrageous 39% price increase in 30 days! Obviously Amazon is not paying the record label 39% more - they are simply gouging their customers by raising the price at a time when overall inflation is an ultra-low 2%. I put this item in my cart thinking that I would buy it later when I had accumulated a few other items to purchase. No way will I pay an extra 39%! Amazon loses a sale by giving in to greed.

3 out of 5 stars remastered -- not that big a deal   April 10, 2010

Always fun to see if there's much new in a remastered record. I love this album -- it's the best of Jimi's releases (IMO). The DVD is short and doesn't really tell much. I can't say the remastered copy is much different than the other CD I have. Great record, not so great repackaging.
